Shieh MOF-Chemical Biology Lab

I received my bachelor's degree in Chemistry in 1994 and my master's degree in Biochemistry in 1996 from National Chiao-Tung University, Taiwan. Following two years of mandatory military service in the Taiwan Air Force and three years of teaching in a senior high school, I embarked on my doctoral journey as a Ph.D. student in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at UC Santa Barbara (UCSB), USA, in 2002, under the supervision of Prof. Norbert O. Reich. During this time, I was fortunate to receive a three-year scholarship from the Ministry of Education, Taiwan, for overseas studies. After successfully earning my Ph.D. in Protein Crystallography in 2007, I transitioned to UC Los Angeles (UCLA), where I joined the laboratory of Prof. Robert T. Clubb for a one-year post-doctoral training at the Molecular Biology Institute.

      In August 2008, I returned to Taiwan and assumed the role of Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at National Central University (NCU). Currently, I hold the position of a full Professor and serve as an Associate Vice President in the Office of International Affairs at NCU, a role I have held since February 2021.

Our research is focused on obtaining nanostructured Metal-organic Frameworks (MOFs) through environmentally friendly synthetic methods, such as water-based processes or mechanochemical approaches. Our primary goal is to create biocomposites, including enzymes@MOFs. Additionally, we are actively developing the field of "MOF chemical biology," which involves studying the behaviors and structural changes of biomolecules embedded in MOFs.
